Preparing, tweaking, or overhauling a syllabus? Let’s work together! Join us for sessions on how to make your syllabus meaningful for you and your students by communicating learner-centered course design and pedagogy. We will introduce the Instructors’ Guide to Syllabus Composition, strategic recommendations, and examples of writing an intentional syllabus. 

This is a joint professional development offering by UCATT and the Office of General Education (OGE). Instructors involved in teaching in Gen Ed are encouraged to participate. For more GE-specific information, see the GE Syllabus Guidelines.

Syllabus Work Week Webinars

All webinars occur from 10:00am to 11:00am (Arizona Time) on Zoom.

Tuesday, January 6: Foundations for a Learning-Focused Syllabus (10-11am)

The first session will address a syllabus's foundational content, structure, and language. We will illustrate examples of utilizing syllabi to highlight the alignment of course outcomes and objectives with the learning environment and assessments.

Wednesday, January 7: Composing a Student-Friendly Syllabus (10-11am)

The second session will address clarity in messages and tone that support a learning relationship between student and instructor. We will discuss student-centered approaches to course policies and general considerations regarding equity and user-friendliness.

Thursday, January 8: Leveraging AI for Syllabus Design (10-11am)

The third session will allow instructors to learn about how to use artificial intelligence tools to help build and design syllabi. Instructors will play around with AI tools and use prompt engineering that addresses specific challenges in their contexts. The session will end with a conversation about AI syllabus policies that help support communication between students and instructors.

Friday, January 9: In-Person Community Lab (10am-12pm, Main Library Learning Studio Rm B254)

Join our 2-hour community lab for an in-person working session. This is a work-alone-together event. We will work on our individual syllabi with access to support and feedback from peers and experts. You bring your laptop/syllabus, and we’ll bring the snacks. Plus, there’s a chance to win free books!
