Sovay Hansen

Sovay Muriel Hansen is Assistant Professor of Practice in the W.A. Franke Honors College and the Office of General Education and is an affiliated faculty in the Department of German Studies. She holds a PhD in English Literature with a minor in German Studies and her interdisciplinary scholarship investigates British and German modernisms and particularly the way female desire is represented in literary texts of the period. Sovay’s recent article on the modern woman, material culture, and the Weimar Republic is out in The Space Between: Literature and Culture 1914-1945. Her book chapter on novelist Katherine Mansfield, desire, and metonymy was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2022. Sovay is currently co-authoring an article on makeup and plastic surgery in Weimar-era Germany and is working on a book chapter about how to advocate for yourself as a college student. In her work with the General Education program, Sovay is an editor of Wildcat Perspectives and Wildcat Reflections and teaches UNIV 101 and UNIV 301. In the past, Sovay has taught English courses, for which she has won teaching awards.
